Police and Fire

 

  • Voted in favor of appropriating money for a call/reserve force the Fire department
  • Voted in support of replacement vehicles for out-dated or broken police vehicles.
  • Voted in favor of funds to conduct a review of the Cities radio system needs

  • Voted in favor of funding for a new police vehicle
  • Voted in favor of funds to update the Fire Departments reference and training manuals.

Education

  • Supportive funding for the design plans and specifications for renovations in addition to a stent and high school and design plans/specifications for the construction of a new elementary school
  • Voted to appropriate monies to upgrade computer technology school departments.  The previous network was approximately 8 years old.

 

Open space/CPA

  • Voted in support of CPA funds for the repair of the Emily Williston Library roof.
  • Voted in support of CPA funding of dredging of Nashawannuck Pond
  • Voted in support of CPA funding of the Pleasant Green recreational improvements
  • Voted in support of CPA funding for the purchase of Echodale Farm
  • As Ordinance; worked for a trail easement on the Echodale property to allow public access to the land
  • Supported partnership with EHA, State and use of CPA funds to develop first mixed open space preservation and affordable housing project on East Street (Ciak/Papalegis property) Valley Land Fund and Pascommuck Trust 14 acres
  • Voted in support of renovation and development to the Old Town Hall building
  • Voted in support of repairing the Manhan Rail trail wash out

Seniors/Veterans

  • Voted to improve funding for repairs/replacement of roofing on the counseled aging, highway a garage and municipal building
  • Voted to fund monies for an expected shortfall in the veterans Benefit Account
  • Voted in support of creating a donation account in support of the Council on Aging Fitness Center
  • Voted in support of a proposal that would allow senior citizen property tax work-off abatement.
  • Voted to support the increase income level for the deferral of property taxes from 20K to 30K and lower the interest rate from 8% to 4%.
  • Voted in support of sidewalk repair at the Senior Center
  • Voted in support of funding for design of a new HVAC system at the Senior Center
  • Voted in favor of funding to by a new van for the senior Center
  • Voted to upgrade pay for the Council on Aging Outreach worker


Affordable Housing

  • Voted in support of the creating of a Housing Partnership Committee which would help facilitate the development of affordable housing in the city.
  • Supported an affordable housing restriction  on 21 Adams Street property.
  • Supported partnership with EHA, State and use of CPA funds to develop first mixed open space preservation and affordable housing project on East Street (Ciak/Papalegis property) Valley Land Fund and Pascommuck Trust 14 acres
  • Help to craft language to give builders and “density bonus” for additional affordable housing units

 

Public Safety

  • Voted and support of restrictions tightening laws related to people not clearing snow from sidewalks within a regional amount of time
  • Voted in support of replacing our old/outdate ambulance to be upto date in health care for our citizens.
  • Voted in favor of purchase of heavy duty dump truck and sander

 

Smart Growth

  • Voted in favor of a smart growth tool; “Transfer of Development Rights” which allowed preservation of farmland and aquifer recharge areas for a density bonus and more developed areas of the city.  The passage of this ordinance also increases the likelihood of the city receiving additional grant monies for smart growth.

 

Environment

  • Voted in favor of funding for the underground oil tank removal program. Two current applications. 14 other tanks identified for removal.
  • Voted in favor of funding the construction of water pollution abatement facilities, surface drains, severs and sewerage systems in the southern section of the city.
  • Voted to appropriate monies for a grant application to solar electric installation at the Municipal building
  • Voted in favor of grants supporting energy conservation and alternative energy sources

 

City Infrastructure

  • Voted in favor of monies to continue improvements to the sewer pump stations
  • Voted in favor of funds for local road repairs
  • Voted in favor of funding for a feasibility study on a city wide, central, garbage transfer station to help decrease waste management costs.

 

Misc.

  • Voted to appropriate additional monies to match a self-help grant for new bathroom and parking area in Nonotuck Park.
  • Support the creation of a City Finance Director position
  • Voted to support the increase income level for the deferral of property taxes from 20K to 30K and lower the interest rate from 8% to 4%.
  • Supported equal tax rates for residential and commercial properties
  • Crafted and voted in support of ordinance to give residents greater input (SP) on larger projects in the downtown business area
